THE MODERN LEONARDO DA VINCI CESARE CATANIA
In the previous issue we talked by the eclectic artist and brilliant Italian engineer Cesare Catania, who stands out for his ability to produce fine works of art and high engineering projects just like Leonardo da Vinci did more than 500 years ago.
Not we resisted the temptation and went to Italy to visit his art gallery in Milan. In this period, the Italian artist exhibited his Reart painting-sculpture in a MUSEUM of Contemporary Art in Milan but despite his many commitments he welcomes us gladly.
As soon as we entered his gallery it was like diving into a surreal world where art, history, engineering and sculpture come together to create a multifunctional laboratory: a mix of drawing machines, plotters, brushes, spatulas, laser meters, oil paints, all in the same space.
Intrigued by this mix of abstract fantasy and technical rigor, we ask Cesare Catania to show us the projects he is working on.
First he shows us his works that he has just finished completing.
First of all a masterpiece of surrealism and hyperealism oil on canvas entitled “Harlequin in the land of the Giants”. And here the artist surprises us! We thought it was in fact inspired by informal and cubist art, but this time a Harlequin runs on a red and white chessboard, surrounded by a Bishop, by a flying book and topped by a hyper-realistic foot that is surmounted The detail of this painting mystifies us immediately.
Then he continues to show us four sculptures in silicone and steel of contemporary art. The inspiration comes from the mouth of the Etna volcano (Sicily), from which the titles of the same works originated. One is flame red and the others are black, black / green and white / yellow. We are perplexed by the latest version and ask what yellow and white have in common with the colors of a volcano. His response surprised us even more! “Art must be for everyone: this is a version for those suffering from Dalton’s syndrome” replies the Italian artist. Just to clarify … Cesare Catania elaborates for the first time (or so we believe …) a work of contemporary art designed for those suffering from Dalton’s syndrome. Amazing! And the “Modern Leonardo da Vinci” will show this extraordinary sculpture during the international exhibition “Top Marques Watches” (September 2017) at the Hotel Hermitage in Munich. Cesare Catania will also donate one of his paintings to the “Disease Power” Benefit Association and the painting will be awarded during the charity gala event chaired by Prince Albert II.
After spending more than an hour in his gallery we see two pencil sketches sketched on his desk. We ask what it is and we learn that the artist and engineer Cesare Catania is working on two pharaonic projects: a tall crystal tower with a view of almost 50 meters set in a historic city and a Museum-Sculpture of over 40m inspired by the Foot of Poseidon, a steel and concrete structure, committed to climbing a mountain overlooking the sea. This last project was recently patented by Cesare Catania who explains that it could be built as a Museum, as a Hotel, as Sea Light, and so on …. according to the choice of customers and investors. Who knows which cities will be lucky enough to host these two splendid sculptures …?
